Tuesday 20th Feb saw the annual presentation of the Arnold Bibby Award

Arnold Bibby was a founder member of Lancaster & Morecambe AC – who sadly passed away in 2019.

Arnold left a legacy for the club in his will which not only helps secure our financial position but also gives us the opportunity to improve the facilities for our exisiting and new members

To remember Arnold, the club has introduced the Arnold Bibby award for junior and senior members.

This will be awarded at end of each year to a member who has contributed to Lancaster & Morecambe AC over the year, be it by performance or volunteering in club activities.

THe Senior winner of 2025 award goes to Colin Gemson

Colin recived numerous nominations from memers a few of which are below

"I would like to nominate Colin Gemson for the Arnold Bibby award.

Colin has been coaching at Lmac for many years and he turns up week in week out, in all weather's ,whether he has 20 athletes or 2 athletes attending.

Colin cares deeply about his athletes ,texting to make sure they are okay if they are absent from training and he writes individual plans for each of his athletes ranging from 5km races to marathons, 800m to cross country, whatever distances his athletes want to pursue.

Colin has had great successes with his athletes over the years with National triathletes ,World and European pentathletes and National and international fell running and mountain running achievements.
One doesn't have to be an athlete of Colin's for him to give advice or to cheer
an athlete on,he definitely deserves recognition for being such a fantastic coach and an amazing ,kind gentleman. .

Colin Gemson, Colin has given years to this club, coaching athletes at all levels, from athletes who qualify to run for England and those who just run for pleasure, he stands out there in all weathers and ensures all session suitable. When Dave sadly passed on it would have been easier for Colin to give up without his coaching assistant as solo coaching is hard, but he didn’t, he thought of his athletes and continued to turn up thinking of them before himself.

Colin will be retiring soon I am guessing so would be lovely to see him receive this before we get to that stage."

Please can I nominate Colin Gemson for this award. Colin has been coaching for LMAC for around 50 years and aside from the odd holiday he is down at the track Tuesday and Thursday without fail. In his younger days he would either run training sessions at a weekend for his athletes or drive all over the country to support his athletes at events both on the track and over cross country and the road. He has coached athletes to National and international level but still provides advice and support for everyone of his athletes whatever their level. He also holds some pretty amazing PB's over the steeplechase and on the road and at 80+ is still managing to maintain a good level of fitness. Thanks for considering this nomination

THe Junior for 1st time was shared by 2 young athletes Anna Nicholson & Isla Roberts

This year’s Arnold Bibby junior award has (as always) gone not on competition results (although impressive) but rather on what they input back to the junior section with; their attitude to training, the joy they are to coach and their willingness to help bring others on. True ambassadors for our club and sport the award this year is joint between Anna Nicholson & Isla Roberts.
